Owl Cave Books is a San Francisco based artist-run bookstore and independent press distributor specializing in international contemporary art, theory, culture, and politics.
Established by artist and bookseller Viniita ‘Neet’ Moran in London in 2008 while she was also Bookshop Manager at the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Owl Cave Books began with an invitation from artist Marvin Gaye Chetwynd for V to lecture, perform, and run a small feminist and gender theory book swap during one of Chetwynd’s multi night performance extravaganzas for GSK Contemporary at the Royal Academy of Arts. This developed into Owl Cave's continued participation in exhibitions, publications, book fairs, and guerrilla pop ups.
Owl Cave Books have been bookshop in residence at the South London Cultural Centre, in situ at The New Museum, NYC; Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Copenhagen; Frieze Art Fair, London; an exhibitor at Blyth Gallery, Imperial College London; Unit/Pitt Projects, Vancouver; Room&Book Art Book Fair, London; Three Letter Words Art Book Fair, London; Vancouver Art Book Fair, Vancouver; Kadist Art Book Fair Pop-Up, San Francisco; and most recently the inaugural San Francisco Art Book Fair.
Owl Cave Books also supplies a selection of new and vintage titles to Luminous Books in London, UK.
